COUNTRY GARDEN DONATES OVER 1 MILLION MASKS TO MALAYSIA’S COVID-19 FRONT-LINERS
KUALA LUMPUR, 2 APRIL 2020: Country Garden donated over one million surgical and N95 face masks to support front liners in Malaysia who are current serving the nation during this COVID-19 outbreak.
This is the second batch of donations by Country Garden Guoqiang Foundation and Forest City. An earlier batch of 6,000 masks was distributed on March 26 to residents and police officers living near the Lake City @ KL North residential area.
Both batches of donations are part of humanitarian efforts by Country Garden Guoqiang Foundation and Forest City in response to Malaysia’s urgent need for medical protection supplies.
The cargo for the multi-million ringgit worth of face surgical masks and N95 masks arrived in Kuala Lumpur International Airport on 30 March 2020. The masks will be distributed to front liners such as medical staff and police officers serving at Federal Government and Johor state institutions.
On 1 April 2020 in Kuala Lumpur, China’s ambassador to Malaysia Mr. Bai Tian handed over 50,000 surgical masks and 10,000 N95 masks to Datuk Dr Heric Corray, Director of Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) in a simple ceremony held at HKL. Also present was Mr. Wu Zhongquan, General Manager Country Garden MY-SG (KL). Subsequently, more masks will be handed over to institutions and organizations in need.
Mr. Wu said that the donation was Country Garden’s way to show solidarity with the Malaysian government in times of need. “It is our way of showing our support and commitment towards the Malaysian people, and also to express our gratitude towards the front-liners who put themselves at risk every day to serve the people”
Meanwhile, in Johor Bahru on the same day, Country Garden Malaysia-Singapore Regional Vice President Hj. Ir. Syarul Izam handed over 500,000 surgical masks and 50,000 N95 masks to Datuk Haji Hasni bin Mohammad, Chief Minister of Johor.
Hj. Ir. Syarul Izam said that this initiative epitomises the Malay idiom “berat sama dipikul, ringan sama dijinjing ” (Working together through tough and easy times). “It is in times like these that we really need one another. Therefore, let us be united, putting aside our differences, and work together in our collective fight against COVID-19”
Country Garden has been in Malaysia since 2012. For eight years, it has adhered to its corporate mission of " To create a better society with our existence" and has donated more than RM 10 million towards environmental protection, education, and regional development in Malaysia.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak began in January 2020, Country Garden has taken proactive measures to ensure the health and safety of its customers and staff.
Country Garden employees and residents strictly adhered to the Movement Control Order (MCO), while providing services within its residential developments, such as daily disinfecting of public spaces, free delivery service, and body temperate monitoring. To support homeowners through the MCO period, Country Garden has also initiated community activities such as cooking video-making competitions and photography contests. Since February 2020, Country Garden Malaysia-Singapore Region has donated more than 21,500 masks to the community and surrounding residents.
