FOREST CITY ECO MUSEUM: NEW SPOT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND SHARING PLATFORM FOR VOLUNTEERS
Forest City Eco Museum is an open concept urban ecological museum, with 3 phases development plan. The first phase development was completed and it includes green corridor, seagrass conservation area, exhibition hall and laboratory.
Forest City Eco Museum’s aiming to raise ecological awareness, inculcate environmental culture as well as to build a diverse and interactive cultural exchange platform for surrounding residents, local community and environmental volunteers.
Starting in October this year, Forest City Eco Museum will have monthly theme in effort to spread and promote marine ecology knowledge and advocate environmental protection concept to a wider community.
In order to fulfill its role as a science educational hub, Forest City Eco Museum will launch environmental classes for the youth on ad-hoc basis, inviting residents of Forest City and local community to visit the museum to explore knowledge on Forest City’s surrounding marine ecosystem.
On 17 October, the Eco Museum and FC Go Green environmental project launched a jointly organized education series. The first session was conducted at the Eco Museum. Through the session, participants were given the opportunity to learn and understand the basic knowledge of the natural heritage and marine ecosystem in the vicinity which is part of Forest City sustainable development concept.
Other than on-site session, the Eco Museum also launched an online virtual tour for those who are unable to be physically on site. The virtual tour video has been sent to 7 Forest City adopted schools. The teachers and students can go through the online ecology familiarization despite the restriction due to the movement restriction order.
Other than being the science educational hub, Forest City Eco Museum is also playing a role as a scientific research and exchange platform for local research institutions and environmental groups. The laboratory beside the exhibition hall is providing space for local universities such as UMT to conduct some on-site research and study works.
At the same time, the exhibition hall has also become a place for idea exchanges between various environmental organizations. As a close partner with Forest City, a group of volunteers from Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) paid a visit to the museum on 23 October and further discussed detailed plan in achieving the balance between urban development and natural environment.
Since its official launch in September, Forest City Eco Museum has received more than 800 walks in visitors. To date, 9 schools, NGOs and local community are in talk with the Eco-Museum on the organized visits.
